Label texts

Exhibition Label: "Alberto Vargas: The Esquire Pinups," Sep-2001, Stephen Goddard, Maria Buszek The text accompanying this gatefold, which appeared two months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, alludes to the U.S. Army, Navy and Airforce. By September 1942, the texts on the gatefolds would make reference to women contributing to the war effort by working on the homefront, but this does not appear in Vargas’s watercolors until 1943.
