Exhibition Label: "Alberto Vargas: The Esquire Pinups," Sep-2001, Stephen Goddard, Maria Buszek In all likelihood, this gatefold makes reference to the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. The League was founded by Philip K. Wrigley in 1943 to shore up enthusiasm for the national sport at a time when many male players were being drafted into military service. This gatefold also appeared as a poster promoting the sale of War Bonds.
