Exhibition Label: "Trees & Other Ramifications: Branches in Nature & Culture," Mar-2009, Steve Goddard Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser dedicated much of his career to ecological awareness. At the time of this lithograph’s creation, the mayor of Washington, D.C., Marion Barry Jr., proclaimed November 18, 1980, as “Hundertwasser Day.” The city marked the occasion by planting trees in Washington’s Judiciary Square, and presenting a copy of this work to Ralph Nader.
