Exhibition Label: "The Family in Photography," Dec-1997, Stefanie Vigil The setting of formal portraits changed in the twentieth century. This family poses in their living room. Outdoor scenes also became a popular setting for the formal family portrait. These deviations from the traditional studio portrait allow the family to appear casual and spontaneous.
