Label texts

Archive Label 2003:
In addition to her philanthropic and political work, Norman was an avid photographer. She was a member of Alfred Stieglitz’s coterie and raised money for him to open An American Place, his second gallery. Stieglitz himself was a photographer and tireless supporter of modern art and artists in the United States. This composition accentuates both the modernity of photography as well as the quirky personality of the sitter.
