Archive Label 2003: In her contemporary wall hangings Schira breaks away from the strict warp-and-weft grid traditionally associated with weaving. For Winter Dream, the artist employed a state-of-the-art computerized loom and painted directly on some of the threads. The result is an optical illusion of texture, color, light, and shadow that evokes landscapes and dreamscapes of both the earth and the mind.
