Exhibition Label: "The Family in Photography," Dec-1997, Stefanie Vigil Since the government projects in the 1930s the family has been used as a symbol of strength amidst diversity for a variety of social reform programs. Siskind documented life in Harlem in the 1930s and 1940s. His images of domestic scenes are poignant reminders of the problems that threaten o destroy the inner-city family.
