Exhibition Label: "Windmills to Workshops: Lawrence and the Visual Arts," Jul-2004, Kate Meyer Jordan has been a photography instructor at the KU’s School of Fine Arts for the past sixteen years. In addition to introductory photography courses, he has taught the history of photography and video methods and techniques at KU. The untitled photograph shows an interest in directing attention to background details. The figure of the nude woman is blurred so that the viewer will focus on the environment that surrounds her as well as the small image of women grouped in a pyramidal formation. The juxtaposition of the large out-of-focus nude and the conservatively dressed women of an earlier period invite commentary on the changing relationship among the body, clothing, and gender constructs.
