Exhibition Label: "Trees & Other Ramifications: Branches in Nature & Culture," Mar-2009, Steve Goddard Johnson worked primarily in the northeastern part of the United States and was especially active in New York State. The Y-shaped trunks of these old oaks suggests that they were felled, perhaps in the eighteenth century, only to grow back in this idiosyncratic form.
