Exhibition Label: “Big Shots: Andy Warhol, Celebrity Culture and the 1980s,” Aug-2009, Susan Earle This work includes an Evatone Soundsheet that was created from a tape for harmonized voice, dogs, and violin. Laurie Anderson is a performance and multimedia artist who knew Warhol. She created one of the earliest videos for MTV in 1981 based on her 8 ½-minute hit single, O Superman. Warhol included a photograph that he took of Laurie Anderson in his book America (1985). Anderson has had a long-term relationship with musician Lou Reed, who along with John Cale led the seminal New York rock group The Velvet Underground. Warhol championed the band, serving as its first manager, helping secure its first recording contract, and creating the famed banana cover art for the band’s 1967 debut record The Velvet Underground & Nico.
