Exhibition Label: “Embodiment,” Nov-2005, Kate Meyer It was once thought that these small female figurines were used to assist women in discussing their ailments with their doctor by indicating sources of discomfort on the doll rather than their own bodies. Today, these objects are now believed to be examples of erotica. This figure wears slippers, which would have covered her erotically appealing bound feet. The small size of the figure would allow for easy concealment.
