Exhibition Label: "Trees & Other Ramifications: Branches in Nature & Culture," Mar-2009, Steve Goddard The Eastern Cottonwood (Populus deltoides subspecies monilifera) is the state tree of Kansas and Nebraska. The Cottonwood is a fast-growing tree found primarily along streams where the soil is wet, much like the Willow tree. The delicate seeds of the Cottonwood resemble a boll (seed case) of cotton.
