Debut
Rogers painted many landscapes of rural farms throughout north-central Kansas. Here he depicts a farm in a state of rest. No farm workers, animals, or crops are visible. The buildings are so bright that they look almost like the great limestone rock formations throughout Kansas that were formed 85 million years ago by a sea that covered most of the state. Sediments deposited by sea currents eventually carved and created landscapes like the one in Farm on a Ridge. Beneath the farms, plains, and rolling meadows of Kansas lies a hidden archive of fossils from eras past.
