Archive Label 2003 (version 1): Dennis Helm was born in Stafford, Kansas, and studied art at Hutchinson Community College before studying with Robert Sudlow at the University of Kansas. Helm was a gifted portraitist and a strong protagonist for the arts in Kansas. Archive Label 2003 (version 2): Dennis Helm was born in Stafford, Kansas, and studied art at the Hutchinson Community College before coming to the University of Kansas, where he was a student of Robert Sudlow. Helm was a gifted painter and a strong protagonist for the arts in Kansas. His paintings, lithographs and drawings have been exhibited throughout Kansas and the United States. Among Helm’s contributions to the unique arts community of Lawrence, Kansas was his decoration of the interior of Liberty Hall.
