Exhibition Label: "Trees & Other Ramifications: Branches in Nature & Culture," Mar-2009, Steve Goddard This late seventeenth-century saltbox home in East Hampton, New York, is believed to have been the home of John Payne (1791-1852), the lyricist to the song “Home Sweet Home.” East Hampton was known for its Elms, such as the trees to the left in Mary Moran’s etching (the tree at the right may be a Red Oak).
