Exhibition Label: "Constructions of Place: Architecture in Photography," Jan-1991, Erin Barnett Annan photographed the Glasgow slums between 1868 and 1877 for the Glasgow City Improve-ments Trust, in possibly the earliest commissioned documentary project of its kind. In the process of photographing the buildings in the city center that were going to be demolished as part of an urban renewal project, Annan also recorded the poverty and squalor of Glasgow.
