Exhibition Label: "Machine in a Void: World War I & the Graphic Arts," Mar-2010, Steve Goddard Max Kaus served as an ambulance driver and a hospital orderly during the War. While stationed in Ostend he served with several other German Expressionist artists, including Erich Heckel. This woodcut was published by the handsomely produced post-war periodical Genius (2 no. 2).
