"American Etchers Abroad, 1880-1939," Apr-2004, Reed Anderson
"Oaks in Windsor Park" resulted from Kerr Eby’s third trip abroad; from 1924 to 1925 he wandered throughout Great Britain and northern France collecting subjects for his graphic work. The etching depicts a section of a three-mile grove of trees that connects Great Windsor Park to Windsor Castle. As in most of Eby’s best prints, his goal was to convey a personal experience rather than a merely depict of a place. In works like "Oaks in Windsor Park" nature assumes spiritual and symbolic qualities, the aged trees expressing a vital life force in their twisted trunks and searching limbs.
