Archive Label 2003: This painting is one of two donated by longtime regional patron of the arts, Jean McGreevy Green. Green's interest in Chinese art has been augmented by trips to Taiwan and mainland China and by her friendship with Dr. Chu-tsing Li, Professor Emeritus of Chinese Art at the Kress Department of Art History at KU. Dr. Li has been primarily responsible for building the Spencer's important collection of modern Chinese art. Mountain with Mist fits well into this collection because of its synthesis of Chinese techniques and subject matter with Western ideas of abstraction. by Mary Dusenbury, Laura Pasch
