Exhibition Label: "A Kansas Arts Sampler," Oct-2004, Kate Meyer In this image by a self-proclaimed editorial printmaker, an overall clad, pitchfork carrying gorilla stands before a farm scene. The work relates to the recent controversy in the Kansas Legislature to de-emphasize the instruction of evolution in Kansas high schools. Mock cleverly parodies the stereotype of Kansas conservatism by deliberately using a Regionalist vocabulary of chickens and farm implements in his image.
