In the middle of an abstract field of color are two Black disembodied hands that are untangling and cleaning cotton. There are ruffled sleeve cuffs at the wrists, possibly made from the same type of cotton the hands are cleaning. The hands float as if invisibly held, summoning the untold numbers of enslaved women, men, and children whose forced labor in cotton fields is often nameless and forgotten.
