Exhibition Label: "Windmills to Workshops: Lawrence and the Visual Arts," Jul-2004, Kate Meyer Dan Kirchhefer received an M.F.A. with honors in printmaking at KU and is now on the faculty at Emporia State University. Kirchhefer’s ongoing dialogue with art history informs his work, in this case with a direct reference to Hans Holbein's early sixteenth-century painting, Dead Christ. The same fragility and ephemeral quality found in the print can be seen in South of Cottonwood Falls, where Kirchhefer’s delicate handling of materials suggests a mysterious and otherworldly space of crag and cavern.
