Exhibition Label: "Cabinets of Curiosity: Musing About Collections," Jun-2006, Joseph Keehn and Madeline Rislow Auguste de Bruyne was a collector of rare books, manuscripts and prints in Mechelen, Belgium. As in the earlier portrait of Abraham van Lennep exhibited here, de Bruyne is surrounded by trophies of erudition and European cultural heritage, including a portfolio of Rembrandt etchings. This print served as the title page for the 1886-1887 album of prints produced by Society of Antwerp Etchers.
