Teaching Gallery Label: “Changing the World: Images of Revolution,” Feb-2009, Kate Meyer As a child Genovese witnessed the Spanish Civil War firsthand. His family sided with the anti-fascist Republicans. Shortly after completing El Lugar Y El Tiempo, Genoves was instrumental in organizing an exhibition in Milan to support the cause against General Franco, who was still Spain’s fascist dictator. The stark silhouettes in Ida y Vuelta suggest aggressively political crowds that rally and advance.
