Selkirk’s photograph of Frederick J. Eikerenkoetter II, known as “Reverend Ike,” appeared in the Esquire article, “Proof that the seventies have finally begun.” Selkirk depicts the radio and TV evangelist as a royal figure seated prominently on a throne. Rev. Ike, from the United Church and Science of Living Institute in New York, was known for inspirational sayings such as, “Don’t wait for the pie in the sky when you die; get yours now with ice cream on top!”
