The artist Kai Sa, known as Percy Sandy, studied at the Santa Fe Indian School in New Mexico under the influence of the painter Dorothy Dunn, who was instrumental in developing and promoting a modernist Native American style of painting in the mid-20th century. This print, with its flat colors, simple silhouettes, and nature subject displays the characteristics of that painting style.
