Stanton, probably an amateur photographer, worked exclusively in his native Warwick during the mid-nineteenth century. Due to the high fees placed on the calotype process by its inventor William Henry Fox Talbot, few professionals used this easy method. Stanton used the half-timbered Elizabethan architecture to create a textured pattern. Stanton, like many other amateurs, was most likely interested in using photography to record his local landmarks.
