Exhibition Label: "Brion Gysin: A Selection of Books and Works on Paper," Feb-2005, Steve Goddard and Joanna Sternberg Although dated 1974, this is one of the works for The Third Mind, a project begun in 1964. Unlike the adjacent work for The Third Mind, this piece makes use of one of the rubber wallpaper rollers that Gysin carved so that it could be inked and used to roll out endless recitations of the repeating grid pattern. Gysin and Burroughs then set calligraphy, texts and photographs within this printed pattern.
