Exhibition Label: "Brion Gysin: A Selection of Books and Works on Paper," Feb-2005, Steve Goddard and Joanna Sternberg This drawing of a trusting bird, perhaps a Marsh Owl or Wood Owl, perched on the artist’s hand, was drawn in the year that Gysin opened a restaurant, 1001 Nights, in Tangiers. This restaurant afforded Gysin a venue to enjoy nightly performances of the flute music of the Master Musicians of Jajouka. It was also in this restaurant that Gysin and William S. Burroughs first met.
