Exhibition Label: “Big Shots: Andy Warhol, Celebrity Culture and the 1980s,” Aug-2009, Susan Earle A controversial figure, Burroughs wrote at least one book that was widely banned for a period of time (Naked Lunch, banned until 1966). Burroughs socialized with Warhol on several occasions. His close assistant, James Grauerholz, also knew Warhol. Burroughs lived in Lawrence, Kansas, from 1981 until his death in 1997.
