This scene depicts the Fukuroi station of the To-kaido-. Reading the print from right to left, the viewer travels from the cluster of peaked roofs in the distance, past the barren winter fields, onto the open road, and is brought to this reststop, where a woman stokes the fire with chopsticks to heat tea for weary travelers. The palanquin bearer on the right puts his pipe directly into the fire to light his tobacco.
