Exhibition Label: “C.A. Seward: Artist and Draftsman,” Feb-2010, Kate Meyer Seward would transfer his carefully planned drawings onto his printing plates. He used tissue paper to capture the key details of his drawing and reversed that piece of tissue in order to transfer the essential passages “backwards” onto his plate. With these guidelines established, he then allowed himself the freedom to make expressive marks with his crayon on the plate to flesh out the image.
