In the center of the textile is a Nereid, a sea nymph from Greek mythology associated with Dionysus, seated on a fish with another fish near the Nereid’s left hand. The squares form a cross shape (cruciform) with lozenges (rhomboidal diamonds) in each of the squares. This fragment may have been part of a tunic or larger textile.
