Archive Label 2003: This small container was probably used to store cosmetic facial powder. Such vessels were part of an aristocratic lady’s toilet set. In traditional Korean society, white facial powder could be produced from ground rice or other grains, roasted seashell powder, and white clay. Certain kinds of red flowers were used to make rouge. High-class women demonstrated their status through careful grooming and use of cosmetics.
