Exhibition Label: "Roots and Journeys: Encountering Global Arts and Cultures," Jul-2011, Nancy Mahaney Trade, both with other Native American tribes in Louisiana and with white traders, was historically an important part of the Coushatta (or Koasati) lifestyle. Horse hair (Equus ferus), which is an important trade commodity among the Coushatta, is still used to create miniature baskets for sale.
