Inked Bodies

In this work, Ed Hardy blends seemingly disconnected images in a chaotic layout similar to a tattoo artist’s flash sheet. In the top right corner a curvy woman’s leg, reminiscent of the pin-up girls nearby, repeats in an arc resembling a row of dancers. The skeletal figures with distended bellies who prowl the edges reference hungry ghosts from Buddhist theology. Despite their vastly different origins, these images all speak to a grotesque, all-consuming desire for food, sex, and entertainment.
