Pillar prints, also called architectural prints at the time, were manufactured in England. The Continental market showed little interest in them. The largest market seems to have been the United States during the decades when classical style influenced everything from the lines of women’s dress to the colonnades of Southern mansions. Americans, modeling their new nation on the ideals of ancient Greece, were infatuated with all forms of Classical design.
