Exhibition Label: "Passages: Persistent Visions of a Native Place," Sep-2011, Nancy Mahaney These Comanche moccasins reveal an integration of Kiowa style with southern plains fringe on the heel and vamp or top of the shoe. They were probably considered festive garb used only for ceremonies or celebrations. They consist of a dyed green/yellow vamp (foot proper) and a beaded rosette tassel with a metal stud at the center. Red, white, and blue seed beads trim the vamp and/or top.
