Exhibition Label: "Personal Geometry: Quilts by Yoshiko Jinzenji and Virginia Jean Cox Mitchell," Feb-2014, Susan Earle and Cassandra Mesick Like other quilts in the Minimized Colour series, Dew II is conceived as a collaboration between white and more saturated hues. Angular ribbons of wool and silk undulate across a field of warm bamboo white, creating rhythmic pops of soothing green, rusty terracotta, cool grey, and earthy ochre. All of the colors have been derived from plant-based dyes. Just as the materials used to make this quilt stem from the natural world, so too does the design; an inspiring walk through a tropical jungle ultimately inspired the pattern.
