Exhibition Label: “Big Shots: Andy Warhol, Celebrity Culture and the 1980s,” Aug-2009, Susan Earle Ernesto Esposito is a prominent shoe designer and collector of contemporary art. The shoes he designs are brightly colored and whimsical, like little multi-colored sculptures. His initial connection to Warhol was likely through shoes, in addition to his celebrity status. Warhol had created fashion illustrations of shoes earlier in his career, and he also produced an extended series of shoe paintings. This group of Polaroid prints reveals aspects of the interaction between Warhol and Esposito, and the ways in which the sitter changes pose or gesture to find the most appealing or characteristic one.
