Joseph Kosuth is an important American conceptual artist who came to prominence in the 1960s with works that examined the linguistic and documentary properties of art objects, such as One and Three Chairs
(1965). He has been at the forefront of conceptualism’s exploration of the nature of art and has written several books. He is one of several highly influential artists whom Warhol portrayed in his Polaroid pantheon in the 1970s and ‘80s.
