Exhibition Label: “Big Shots: Andy Warhol, Celebrity Culture and the 1980s,” Aug-2009, Susan Earle Cherry Vanilla was a glam rock star in the early 1970s, and she also performed in Warhol’s stage show Pork. She is cited as an important influence on David Bowie’s change from folksinger to glitter queen in 1971-72. Ahead of Patti Smith and Blondie’s Debbie Harry, she was the first woman to front a rock band in the 1970s New York scene. Warhol’s photograph shows her out and about.
