Exhibition Label: “Big Shots: Andy Warhol, Celebrity Culture and the 1980s,” Aug-2009, Susan Earle Rupert Smith was a studio assistant to Warhol, and he printed many of Warhol’s silkscreen portraits. The role of the printer (Smith) was a crucial part of the process of transferring the image (Warhol’s photograph) to the canvas for the final portrait.
