Exhibition Label: "Climate Change at the Poles," Jan-2009, Kate Meyer, Jennifer Talbott, and Angela Watts In the same way that layers of ice can be studied to reveal the history of climate in Antarctica, this stack of radar equipment shows an evolution in the development of radar at the University of Kansas. Units like these are used to detect layers of ice such as those seen in the echogram on view in this gallery. These radar components are representative of the larger body of technological work accomplished by KU over the past decade. Their development has trained a generation of engineers, informed a generation of scientists, and continues to serve as the foundation on which further remote sensing technologies are pursued. This radar “body of work” by KU engineers stands out as among the finest in the world.
