This figure may represent Jules Perrot a Gringoire, a character in the ballet "Esmeralda," written by Perrot and based on Victor Hugo's "Notre Dame de Paris." The Staffordshire figures often reflected popular interest in current theatrical productions. Figures of famous actresses such as Jenny Lind, Mrs. Siddons, or the Cushman sisters were also frequently produced.
