Exhibition Label: “C.A. Seward: Artist and Draftsman,” Feb-2010, Kate Meyer In this nostalgic image, Seward combines views of San Ildefonso Pueblo with a nearby outcropping named Black Mesa shown in the distance, although these sites are not actually viewable from the same location. The large cottonwood tree at the center of the composition is a real part of the pueblo, and the tree now dwarfs the surrounding architecture.
