Debut

Originally trained as an architect, Ed Moulthrop was a self-taught woodturner and a pivotal figure in the development of contemporary woodturning. His experimental approach began as a teenager when he purchased his first lathe from Popular Mechanics. The lathe arrived without instructions or tools, forcing him to teach himself how to operate it. Working on massive lathes of his own design, Moulthrop is best known for his large sculptural forms made from entire logs and sometimes weighing over a ton.
