Archive Label 2001: "Flint enamel" was a patented glaze used at Bennington Pottery from 1849 to 1858. Created and patented by C. W. Fenton, this method uses powdered colors applied to pieces coated in transparent glaze. These colors melt into the glaze and streak down the sides of the ware.
