Civic Leader and Art Collector: Sallie Casey Thayer and an Art Museum for KU

This video tells the story of how Sallie Casey Thayer’s 1917 founding gift defined and shaped the mission of what would become the Spencer Museum of Art. Thayer’s desire for her collection to be used as an educational tool still informs the Spencer’s work with the University of Kansas, and the depth and breadth of her collection continue to spark inquiry and inspire ongoing research. Featuring interviews with Charles C. Eldredge, Kris Ercums, Saralyn Reece Hardy, Jake Janerio, Carol Shankel, and Celka Straughn, this video explores the enduring legacy of Thayer’s gift.
