Larry Schwarm: Kansas Farmers

“Farmers at this location have recently set up a new watering system that provides even more water because the well being diverted in this image is 150 feet deep and going dry… The aquifer cannot be seen with human eyes, yet we see its water in the form of irrigation as well as smaller applications such as this single hose filling a stock tank. In nearly all locales, the aquifer is being depleted at faster rates that the formation can naturally recharge” (pg. 20). Water usage is a major factor in farming practices, including concerns about precipitation, irrigation, flooding, drought, and aquifers.
